Vacation states, New guitar

Vacation States, New guitar

While vacation in Canada,  Oregon, and Washington, I was trying to find a new guitar because it wasn't practical to bring one on the plane or boat.

We visited with a charming lady in Rockaway Beach, Oregon and enjoyed great music and great food. The lunch she made for us was delicious. Thank you very much Phyllis.

I found a Martin guitar in an Oregon pawn shop and it turned to be a very good one.  It was in
new condition.

I was very pleased to find a guitar with a sound a little different from my other Martins.
The sound of this guitar reminded me of the sound of a Taylor.  I was pleased with the sound
and bought it.  The label said:  made in Mexico.  My guitars, I think, were made in PA.

It was a surprise to see a Martin without position markers on the fretboard.  It was made in Mexico however I'm pleased with the sound of the  instrument.
The body was rounded on the edges as one can see on the pictures below.

All my Martins are flush with the sides.not beveled.

I am happy with the sound.
If anyone has a better  understanding of this type of guitar or "Made in Mexico, Please let me know.

This "new Martin's" first, well maybe second road trip  will be to the nursing home trip where I will play a few songs for friends.
Goodnight from My Music Land to Yours

  2. It is a real beauty! I have never seen one without the fret marks, unusual. It looks like new, and I love the really rounded shape of it.

  3. I am not much of a guitar expert, but I have never seen one like that without fret marks. It is a nice rounded piece and I am thankful that you found it.

  6. Louis Dean, I followed your wonderful vacation on Linda's blog! I felt like I was along for the trip! I grinned big, when you bought that guitar!

I love that you take your gift of music with you to the nursing homes, and sing for them. So many are lonely in those places.

  7. We have 2 Martins, a D28 and a D35, a Gibson in the F series and an RB800 banjo! We get together with some young guys--and they have improved each of the 10 years we've played with them. One plays every instrument and he has the best ear I have ever heard! Our harmonies are tight,(we work at them) and we have a dobro player, and the 23 year old genius who can play every instrument, but loves the fiddle and mandilin better. He sings leead and tenir. We have a bass player, and of course, several guitar players. We are a bluegrass group, but we love classic country, too. My husband and I have played together for over 50 years and it was nice to find some young, talented guys to mentor and play with. I hope you can find someone who'd like to play with you once in awhile. It makes all the difference.Keep picking!!

  9. Oh, I did a youtube search on your X series Martin guitar. Martin has a business in Mexico, where they make guitars with different product's to cut the prices of those Martins. ( They began this when people weren't buying many guitars almost 30 years ago.) If you got one that you're pleased with, then that is the main thing!

  11. Hi Mr.Chapman! Your lovely wife has been a blog favorite of mine since before the quads were born! My grandparents passed when I was very young, I like to think they were a lot like you both. I am looking forward to reading about the music you hold dear. I am a teacher, but if I could do it over again I would love to have gotten my music education degree. Can't wait to read about your new adventures!
